Inspection report

The findings of the main inspection are described in the inspection report. This report is confidential and is presented to the certification applicant and to a panel of experts for peer review.

The certification institute will indicate in the report whether the forest management unit complies with the requirements of the standard or that improvements should be made. There are two types of improvements:

  • Minor corrective action requests (CAR) or conditions. The company must make the improvements  within a certain time though it  can be still be nominated for certification.
  • Major corrective action requests (CAR) or preconditions. The company must make major corrections before the company can be nominated for certification. The time limit is specified by the certifying institution.

 

 Examples of CARs are:

  • Improving  management and exploitation plan
  • Making maps user friendly
  • Mapping out the  protected areas in the forest management unit and indicate policy of protection
  • Improving inventory methods
  • Reducing the use of chemical agents
  • inventory of illegal activities, and make an IEP( International Emergency Preference Scheme)
  • better use of safety equipment and clothing
  • Creating a training plan for staff to create and implementing it
  • Improving  a closer cooperation  with local people
