Monitoring and Technical improvement

1a) Baseline study

The project started with a baseline study that supported the evaluation of project activities and goals at the end of the project. It established current process lines, administration needs and current approximate production yields, for the development of a monitoring tool and furthermore the baseline study will take into consideration existing product and process standards in Suriname.

1b) New tools and methods to improve existing wood processing practices

Digitale monitoring tool
A digital system for process yield has been developed, to obtain insight in product yield and the amount of waste. This system can be used to monitor the flow of process and product data with the possibility to make calculations, to enable the comparison of the results with administration and marketing purposes.

The digital monitoring tool was created in cooperation with i-Frontier. The aim is to provide good insight for the whole wood processing sector, hence, companies are invited to participate in the use of the tool. Reduction and re-use of wood waste
Based on the outcomes of the monitoring tool, companies will be able to obtain insight in processes that are creating high amounts of waste. In close consultation with companies, innovative methods will be developed and adaptations can be proposed (and applied), to provide companies opportunities to adjust or renew these processes to optimally make use of wood and to decrease waste production. Therefore, a research on wood waste has been performed and has offered advice on which methods to use.
