National Forest Policy Plan
In the National Forest Plan, the Surinamese government writes that Surinamese forests need to:
... contribute to the national economy and the welfare of present and future generations in accordance with the conservation of biodiversity ......
In order to achieve this, amongst other things, the annual production of wood is increased to around 500,000 m3.
That this will happen in a sustainable way, can be derived from the formulated economic, ecological and socio-cultural objectives.
The plans of the government and the forestry industry obviously have similarities, such as
- increasing the production of round timber, based on the principles of sustainable forest management
- minimize the environmental impact
