Forest Exploration

With a forest exploration the future operator surveys  the possibilities for timber exploration in areas where logging is permitted (see art. 16, 23 and 24 forest law).

SBB can issue an exploration license to Surinamese legal persons or corporations for the duration of:

• 1 year for areas up to 25,000 ha
• 2 years for areas between 25,000 ha and 150,000 ha.
• An application form needs to be submitted to SBB.

Cost of exploration will be paid by the concessionaire through a fixed exploration rate.

There are minimum requirements for the collection and processing of data.

A  logging plan will be written with data from such an exploration. This, together with the forest business plan forms the basis for a concession application.
