The increased interest in certification was also accompanied by the realization that Suriname has a long and difficult journey to go in order to reach this goal. Despite the fact that three companies are currently preparing for FSC certification, there is still a lot to do in the field of sustainable forest management, mitigating impact logging (RIL) and control of the timber flow, in particular the registration and monitoring of the journey of logs from the forest to the timber industry. More and more the idea of a phased form of certification becomes appealing. The way in which this can be achieved is the subject of this Legal Timber Document.
