Export

The export of Surinamese wood is usually done in unprocessed form. Of the total wood production 20% is exported. The market is mainly in Asia (65%). About 35% is exported to Europe and the USA.

There are  strict rules for the export. Round wood, pole timber, sawn timber and finished products manufactured from wood are on the negative list. This means that a special permit is required for the export of these.  Also, an export tax must be paid.

The timber industry would like to see these limiting factors for export be lifted.
